Readers Journal- Mystery

#8                                                Readers Journal                                     10/17/11                                               Dear Mrs. Zrihen,                                                                                                                                           I am in the middle of reading the book Flawless, A Little Pretty Liars Series. This book is by . This book was obviously mystery because I think this book is scary because all of the events that already happened in this book. One passage that really stood out to me was:                                                                                        " Fine I will tell them it was me, but you will pay"!!                                                        This passage is sagnificent to this book because it sort of gives the idea who might of hurt Ali. I used some strategies before, during and after I read this book. One strategy that I used before I read this book was to create a purpose for reading this book. The purpose that I read this book was to do a readers journal on this book. Another strategy that I used before I read this book was to skim and scan through this book and see if there was any text features. One strategy that I used while I was reading this book was to ask questions about what is going on in the book. Another strategy that I used while I was reading this book was to predict what was going to happen next. One strategy that I used after I read this book was to answer the questions I asked myself while I was reading but unfortunately I did not get the chance to finish reading this book.                                                                                                                         I found many fiction elements in this book so far. I think the main characters of this book are Ali, Spencer, Emily, and Hannah. All of them were best friends that had a secret. Other main characters of this book were Tobby, and Jenna. The top main character in this book is Ali, a sixth grader that went missing at the end of sixth grade. Another main character is Spencer, a sixth grader who was one of Ali’s best friends. Spencer was there when Tobby said something very suspicious to Ali but she promised Ali that she wouldn’t tell anybody. Another main character in this book was also one of Ali’s best friends, Emily. Emily was a girly girl and had no secrets except one that nobody new except Ali. Emily was also a sixth grader. One other main character in this book is Hannah witch is also a sixth grader. She is a thin dark haired girl who also has a secret only Ali knew. Tobby is a suspicious boy that walks around the neighborhood spying on everyone. Toby is the antagonist for now because he threatened Ali by “saying you will pay”! Toby has a stepsister named Jenna and he loves her, maybe a little too much. Jenna was in Ali’s class and was sort of a shy person.                                                              There is only two settings were this book is taking place right now and that is at Ali’s house and at the main characters school. The weather conditions at Ali’s house were dark and gloomy. At the main characters school is was sunny. Ali’s family is middle class meaning that their family is not poor and not rich.                                                                                                               I was not able to get to finish this book so I do not know the falling action and resolution of this book. The exposition of this book was when all of the main characters were introduced. The rising action of this book is when Ali and her best friends go to Ali’s for a slumber party. The climax of this story was when Ali went missing. The main conflict was that Ali went missing. Most of the conflicts in this book was man vs. man. The tone of this book was frightened. The mood of this book was scared. The theme of this book was friendship. I don’t know the motif yet. The authors point of view was third person objective. The pattern of organization was chronological order. The authors purpose for writing this book was to entertain. The author’s perspective is objective.                                                                                                             To me this book is scary because Ali went missing and toby said you will pay. So far this book is awesome. I would rate this book a ten out of ten because it is so interesting. This book was fantastic and I would recommend this book to boys and girls ten and up because it is scary. I hope to finish reading this book so I can read the next series.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Sincerely,                                                                                                                                                Roxanne Fine
